What criteria does an intern need to meet?

* APPLICATION UPDATE Summer 2010

The number of positions left is extremely limited. If you have not already been communicating with an approved host organization, you may want to contact the YMCA at 1-877-668-7602 or YWCA Canada at 1-877-994-6876 to find out more about availability in your area.

Also, please note that:
Post-secondary graduates: are almost completely filled. General applications from this website are no longer being accepted from youth with this education level. Where positions remain, interns will be specifically recruited.
High school graduates: are still available and applications are being accepted through this website.
Non-High School Graduates: are still available and applications are being accepted through this website.

You must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Between the ages of 15 and 30
  • Unemployed and out of school (at the time of application and placement)
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person to whom refugee protection has been granted under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Legally entitled to work in your province or territory

Where applicable, you may also need:

  • A parent or guardian's signed consent to participate
  • To complete a police records check

The YEIP particularly encourages applicants from visible minority, Aboriginal, immigrant, refugee and traditionally marginalized communities to apply. Hosts are expected to work with the Youth Eco Internship Program to provide employment supports wherever possible. Promoting diversity strategies in your recruitment efforts is essential to this process.
